If Mukteshwar had a dramatic side, it would undoubtedly be Chauli Ki Jali. Perched on a striking cliff edge near the revered Mukteshwar Dham, this iconic trail is where mythology, adventure, and jaw-dropping Himalayan views come together.

The walk to Chauli Ki Jali is relatively short and beginner-friendly, making it ideal even for casual hikers. Think of it as less of a punishing trek and more of a rewarding nature trail—with a spectacular payoff. The route winds through oak, pine, and rhododendron forests, where the air feels cooler, cleaner, and somehow more alive. Keep your eyes and ears open—Himalayan barbets, bulbuls, woodpeckers, and other mountain birds often make delightful appearances along the way.

And then comes the reveal.

Suddenly, the forest opens to towering rock formations and dramatic natural stone lattices—“jaali” quite literally means mesh. Local folklore links the site to a fierce battle between a goddess and a demon, lending the cliffs an almost mystical aura. Whether or not you believe the legends, the setting certainly feels cinematic.

Adventure seekers can also try rappelling and rock climbing here, while photographers will find endless frames—from sweeping valleys to snow-capped peaks stretching across the horizon on clear days.

Difficulty Level

Easy to Moderate — suitable for most fitness levels, though some rocky sections need careful footing.

What to Carry

  • Good trekking or sports shoes (avoid slippery soles)

  • Water bottle

  • Light jacket or windcheater

  • Sunglasses / cap

  • Camera or binoculars

A small word of caution: resist the temptation to lean too close to the cliff for “that perfect Instagram shot.” The mountains are generous with views—you don’t need to negotiate with gravity.

Come for the hike, stay for the views, and leave with a story. Chauli Ki Jali isn’t just a trail—it’s one of Mukteshwar’s most unforgettable experiences.

Keep the Camera handy to catch the spectacular Sunset
